It shouldn’t take us by surprise, but the truth is that we can’t be more excited for it to come true. After the huge success of Super Mario Bros. The Movie, now Nintendo and Illumination want to go one step further to adapt a franchise as legendary as The Legend of Zelda.
As revealed by Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast, Universal is very close to closing an agreement with both companies so that the film production becomes a reality. “I’ve been told that Universal is, in fact, closing a big deal with the Nintendo corporation to Legend of Zelda“explains the insider.
“Zelda seems to be the next big franchise from Illumination and Nintendo, something we all expected. They have told me that it is happening,” says Sneider, who in turn points out that it will cost the company “a lot of money” to get the rights to the saga.
Of course, for now there is no official confirmation or approximate release date, so you have to wait for both Nintendo and Illumination to rule on it. However, taking into account the popularity that Zelda has achieved in its more than 35 years of history, it seems like a more than feasible project.
