Many new details have come to light today about Hellblade 2, the return of the Ninja Theory saga. Just over a month and a half after its expected launch, the title from the British studio has confirmed its only graphic mode and that the former director of the company, Tameem Antoniades, abandoned her some time ago, although it has not been confirmed when exactly his departure occurred.
One of the questions that has been floating around for a few months is if Hellblade 2 is too short. Those responsible for the video game already pointed out that it would have a duration similar to that of the first delivery, that is, around 7-9 hours. In that sense, now the game director, Dom Matthews has defended Ninja Theory's new proposal In a recent interview with IGN.
Is Hellblade 2 too short? The game director defends Ninja Theory's new proposal
This has been the answer from Matthews to those who believe that Hellblade 2 will be too short.
“I think what we always try to do is tell a story and make the length of the game appropriate for the story we want to tell. So it's not about setting out to have shorter experiences. I think it is the story we want to tell… with a beginning, a middle and an end and that it is the right shape and size so that the experience can tell that story. “That’s where we start.”
Along the same lines, the new leader of Ninja Theory after the departure of Antoniades has also stated that studio fans prefer short games. This is how he explained his position.
“I would say that as digital distribution has become a trend the industry has become more open to games of all sizes and shapes, which I think is great. I'm really happy to see that there are a lot of people who really enjoy the shorter experiences, something they can sit down on a Friday night, put on the headphones, turn off the lights and immerse themselves in an experience and there are gamers who don't necessarily want something 50 or 100 hours long, so it's as long as it should be. And I'm one of those people, I like short games.
I think there's a lot of pressure on people's time these days and I think our fans, from what I've heard from them, enjoy short games where our intention is for every step in the journey to be meaningful. “There is an audience that wants games that get to the point.”
