In addition to Game of Thrones, one of the series that shone the most on HBO during the past decade was, without a doubt, Westworld. Based on the original 1973 film by writer-director Michael Crichton, Westworld was rebooted as a television series for HBO by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, but after 4 seasons, the company decided to cancel it unexpectedly.
Well, it seems that the return of the series could occur at some point in the future. This was revealed by Nolan and Joy in an interview with TheWrap, indicating that although there are no official signs of a new season, they maintain hope for its eventual return.
“Our philosophy from the beginning has been to make sure that each installment, each chapter, is complete, tells a good story and then we have the opportunity to continue. But Lisa and I had an architecture for the series and I like having the opportunity to finish these things. I think our hope is still to have the opportunity to return to that history, and I wouldn't want to spoil it now if we have the opportunity to do so.”
During the conversation, they explained that they had already planned an ending for the series that was going to occur in the fifth season. After exploring several extravagant concepts, they concluded that they should close the cycle and finish the work where it all began: in the Old West.
However, to see this hypothetical ending, they will have to convince HBO, which canceled the series after four seasons due to an abrupt drop in viewership. In addition, the series was removed from the platform and can currently only be viewed legally through Blu-Ray.
