Not that the latest Star Wars trilogy has been the pinnacle of criticism. Disney offered us three films that followed the events of Return of the Jedi featuring characters like King, Poe Dameron either Finn. However, the result has not achieved the unanimity of the public.
It is precisely John Boyega, the actor who played Finn, who has spoken to Total Film Magazine (via GamesRadar+) about his relationship with the galactic franchise four years after the premiere of The Rise of Skywalker. The interpreter has confessed to being a big fan of everything that has to do with the universe created by George Lucas, but he admits that it is best to have moved away from him.
“My first exposure to Star Wars was a Darth Maul figure. I’m a ’90s baby, so I came in during the prequels. I was like, ‘Fuck man.’ I didn’t know what it was, but I knew it looked cool and it there were spaceships and lightsabers that could cut your wrist. Then I went back to the old Star Wars. Okay, I’m guilty: I said effects were crap when I was younger! I didn’t know any better. Then I grew up and fell in love with the series. I’m still in love with it. I love it. But it’s almost nicer not having to be in it, and not having to deal with it. It’s weird, you’re a fan again and you see yourself in video games.”
The truth is that the relationship between Boyega and Disney has not always been the best. He himself criticized the marketing campaign that focused on him and then put it in the background during the tape. “What I would say to Disney is: ‘Don’t bring up a black character, promote it so that it is much more important to the franchise than it is and then put it aside. It’s not good, “he confessed to The Times of London (via Deadline).
The actor’s career has continued, starring in the film breaking in which he also takes the role of executive producer. On the other hand, the universe of Star Wars continues its course, although Disney wants to go much calmer when it comes to taking the next steps.
