The game franchise called Contra has been a part of classic video game culture since the late 1980s. It has been developed and published by Konami and has been available on different platforms like arcade and NES. Known for its run-and-gun mechanics, as well as its two-player cooperative gameplay, Contra has been very mythical among players. Although it has been a very successful game series, it has not been as popular recently and has been sidelined along with other Konami franchises like Castlevania.
According to a rumor, it seems that there is a collaboration on the way between Wayforward and Konami to bring back the mythical Contra saga. This rumor has been strengthened by several clues that have emerged recently, which would point to a new title in development. On the other hand, Wayforward is a video game development and publishing company that has gained popularity in recent years. Its most famous franchise is Shantae, and its most recent title will come to Nintendo being the famous remake of Advanced Wars.
Bringing back the legendary Contra saga would be one of Konami’s next plans to revive its old sagas
The new clues that would reveal the existence of a next Contra come from LinkedIn, more specifically from the profile of the former Wayforward employee, Glenn Seindel. He was responsible for the development of a title with narrative and characters of a “IP of a historical shooter” during 2020-2021. The title we are talking about would also be incorporating 4 different game styles that belong to the arcade era, these are: run-and-gun, top-down shooter, shmup and rail gun. Immediately the fans of the saga have recognized these characteristics and are inclined to think that everything is about the return of the Contra saga. Well, it’s not the first time that Wayforward and Konami have worked together on a franchise installment, as this was also the case with Contra 4 for Nintendo DS in 2007.
