Once again at Bitwares we are lucky to be able to test the 2023 version of this classic motorcycle game made by the Italian company Milestone.
Monster Energy Supercross: The Official Videogame 6 It is available for PC, Xbox series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
We find ourselves again in front of the youngest of this well-known franchise, only a year after the launch of its predecessor. We will see if he is up to the previous one.
The game itself features the same type of story mode as the vast majority of racing games, which is to say none at all. It is simply a career mode in which we start as an unknown runner and as we win races we will increase our fame and fortune. We will be able to change and adapt our motorcycle according to our tastes and needs.
In the Trajectory mode we will be able to edit our character with an editor that is just as brief as the previous version. We can also put a name, nickname, nationality, competition number and we can choose the motorcycle that we like from a limited catalog of brands. In the same way as in the predecessor, we will have to pay attention not to get hurt in an accident because that will lower our performance.
In addition to the Career mode, the game introduces us to other classic modes: championship, single event, time trial, Supercross Academy (training) mode, and freewheeling mode that allows us to explore a huge area to practice our skills.
Among interesting additions we will have Rhytm Attack, which is a way to play some “chops” on uneven ground.
The track editor mode, which is one of the best sections of the game, is also still present.
Regarding the game’s graphic section, like its predecessor, it’s not bad but it fails to stand out due to its low texture detail. The design of the human figure is also quite basic, giving the impression of being a mannequin rather than a person.
The sound section is correct, gently accompanying without overshadowing the noise of the engines.
The game controls are quite intuitive and easy to use, it gave me the impression of a slight improvement in the control of the stability of the bike compared to its predecessor. On the contrary, the problems in game physics that we highlighted in the previous version (for example: one can jump and land the motorcycle on the back of a rival and neither of them falls due to this maneuver, but if you brush against a defense on the side of the track you automatically fall) they are still as valid as ever.
The multiplayer mode can be played online or played locally with split screen. Something important to keep in mind is that online multiplayer has cross platform (so good!) but only between the console versions (so bad!). That is, those who play on PC can only play against other players who use PC; and those of PlayStation can play against Xbox players and vice versa, but not against PC. Unfortunately there is no official information on whether this feature will be modified in the future so we can only wait.
THE BEST
- It maintains its essence and the level of challenge of its predecessors
- Added Rhythm Attack modeFunny, especially for fans of the genre
- Fun, especially for fans of the genre
WORST
- The game is practically the same as before. There are no substantial improvements over its predecessor.
- The graphics are still below the graphic potential of an eighth generation console
- No cross platform with PC
