Pentiment’s director, Josh Sawyer, has stated on Waypoint Radio that the content of his game is too specific for most publishers not to fully jump on the project. He has also stated that he would never have considered developing the game without the help of Game Pass and that this is something that was practically ruled out.
He commented that Xbox knew something about the project, but that they had a very vague idea about what they were developing, but once they showed a part of the game, from Xbox only support and encouragement was received to continue development.
Pentiment director Josh Sawyer has said the game likely wouldn’t exist without Xbox Game Pass.
While his experience has been positive, Sawyer said it’s entirely reasonable to look at it and say there’s a real payoff for both those who build on Game Pass and those who use and enjoy it, statements that follow in the same vein of comments as already did in the past. It is not difficult to imagine that this game might have had trouble finding a publishersince the subject that is treated in it can become controversial depending on how it is treated.
