Cyberpunk 2077 was one of the most anticipated and controversial games in recent years. The CD Projekt Red title arrived with numerous technical problems, especially on the previous generation consoles, which caused massive returns and their removal from the PlayStation Store. Since then, the Polish studio has worked hard to improve the game with patches and updates, but it also has a card up its sleeve: Phantom Libertythe first and only expansion that will change the bad reputation of Cyberpunk 2077.
Phantom Liberty was announced during the Summer Game Fest 2023, with an exciting trailer that allows us to enter the Dogtown district, a decadent industrial area where we will have to face new enemies and allies. According to CD Projekt Red, this expansion will offer us an adventure full of “suspense and spies«, with a plot that connects directly to the main story of Cyberpunk 2077.
CD Projekt Red makes a promise of redemption: Phantom Liberty will change the bad reputation of Cyberpunk 2077
In fact, one of the attractions of Phantom Liberty is that it incorporates an additional ending to the story of Cyberpunk 2077, as confirmed by Gabe Amatangelo, director of the game. This means that we will have a new option to decide the fate of our character and that of Night City, the futuristic city where the game is set. But not only that, but also we will once again have the presence of Johnny Silverhand, the rebel rocker played by Keanu Reeves. The Hollywood actor confirmed in a video that he will reprise his role for the expansion, though no further details have been released about his role or his relationship with the lead.
CD Projekt Red hopes that Phantom Liberty will be the true litmus test for the franchise to show what it is capable of, after the heavy blow that the release of the original game dealt. The Polish studio wants to change the bad reputation of Cyberpunk 2077 and offer a satisfying and memorable experience to players.
