Philips is betting on size, higher refresh rates and other trends in gaming monitors.
Phillips Together with its subsidiary AOC, it held an event to review the gaming monitors and peripherals market, as well as the trends in the coming months globally and in Spain. The brands belonging to the TPV group showed the monitor newswhere he highlighted the presence of the 49-inch EVNIA 8000-series that will arrive in September 2023. Slight sales growth in 2024
Starting July 1 Antony Valiente will take over from Agustín de los Frailes as Country Manager of AOC and Philips MMD in Europe. From his hand we have known the overall market behavior of monitors, where sales in Spain have fallen more than in Europe after the pandemic. “We thought that the pandemic was going to be something adverse for technology and it has turned out to be a huge sales reason“Valiente explained.
Afterwards, the panorama changed drastically, together with the lack of supplies and logistical problems, which was reflected in a small market dip since 2021. The beginning of 2023 has been very turbulent, but “it hasn’t been that bad” as estimated and will be a parking period for “normalize prices and adjust production”. Valiente expects the market to stabilize and have a small growth in 2024 also with the increase in manufacturing and the reduction of production times.
Innovation and solution: size does matter
Regarding trends, manufacturers are betting on cutting-edge technologies. Philips has already introduced the OLED panels on some of their gaming monitors, something that seemed impossible because “technological incompatibilities they made it complicated”. Another safe bet is the refresh rate, where the monitor really maximizes the experience with 144/165 Hz in gaming, although the 280 Hz will be the most representative in the next years.
MMD puts all these aspects in value to launch products like the AOC monitors with an obvious gaming focus, where resolution and screen size are essential. “Once you work on the big screen you don’t want to go back to the little one“Valiente pointed out to also talk about home monitors with a multi-window function. In the words of Thomas Schade, VP of Philips MMD and AOC, “size is important because it gives us access to the latest technology, to investments and, therefore, to the increase of innovation in our products“.
In this sense, Valiente highlighted that “we have been pioneers in the introduction of solutions”referring to integrated docking inside the monitor that facilitates connections with a single cable. A technology that has grown 40% in the last year. Finally, she insisted that “all these processes do it the way cleanest and most respectful of the environment and to reduce our carbon footprint”.
