Not only Embracer Group, which recently sold Gearbox Software to Take-Two Interactive, has problems, but also Sega. She decided to sell Relic Entertainment.
The studio behind the Company of Heroes and Dawn of War series has been bought by a group of investors. This makes the company independent and wants to bring amazing titles to players. Support for released games will be maintained, including the planned 1.6 pro update Company of Heroes 3; will arrive in April/April. It's also about authors Age of Empires IV from Microsoft.
At the same time, Sega announced more layoffs. 240 people from Sega Europe, Creative Assembly and Hardlight teams (mobile game authors) will lose their jobs. Most of the releases come from the first two studios, which is likely a result of the cancellation of the multiplayer shooter Hyenas by Creative Assembly. The first wave of layoffs took place here in the fall.
Other studies such as Two Point Studios (Two Point Hospital) and Sports Interactive (Football Manager), was not mentioned. The cuts are said to be necessary for the future and to make the company more efficient in response to the changing economic environment.
Sega's European division already laid off workers in the spring of last year, when 121 Relic employees were dismissed. In the fall, it was decided that Creative Assembly would focus on real-time strategy. At Creative Assembly, after the latest layoffs, they are set to continue development on several Total War projects and an unannounced new game.
