Since the purchase of Activision Blizzard entered the legal dispute phase between Microsoft and Sony, with many of the competition agencies involved, we have learned a lot of really interesting information from the documents provided by both companies, such as the recent confirmation that Bethesda is working on three Xbox exclusives.
However, this is not the only thing that is being discovered, as there is also more controversial information that is coming to light, such as Sony blocking some third parties from coming out on Xbox. And now we have learned other controversial information, and that is that according to information from Insider Gaming, Sony considers that Xbox Game Pass is not competition for PlayStation.
Sony: Xbox Game Pass is no competition for PlayStation
According to the information provided by Tom Henderson, Jim Ryan would have assured in a question and answer conference with some employees that Xbox Game Pass is not competition for PlayStationfearing some employees with the video game subscription service.
The CMA confirms that the majority of gamers are in favor of the acquisition of Activision Blizzard King
When we think about Game Pass, it looks like (service numbers) are going down (relative to subscribers). When we think about Game Pass, we’ve sold more PS5 in two years than they’ve raked in subscribers and they’ve been doing that for 6-7 years. We are close to 50 million subscribers and they are in the low 20 million, but there is more work to do to grow that number.
However, this information is curious to say the least, especially since the arguments used by Sony in its responses to the FTC, CMA and the EU is that, at this time, PlayStation does not have the possibility of competing face to face with a service like Xbox Game Pass. Therefore, this shows that we are facing a chapter of statements in which companies are trying to save their skins in any way before the competition agencies, even if it is displaying information they don’t really believe in.
