The sequel to Metro Exodus is in development for PS5, Xbox Series and PC.
If just a few days ago we were aware that the next Metro game will be inspired by the Ukrainian War, the Insider Gaming medium is now revealing, through the words of insider Tom Henderson, the possibility that the project is either playable from start to finish.
Planned as a sequel to Metro Exodus in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC since 2019, for now it is also known that the title will have a revision of the 4A engine and the studio’s renderer for “take advantage of the new power, storage, and hardware-compatible ray tracing offered by new consoles“. Now, everything points to an upcoming announcement with a view to 2024 as the launch year.
According to the rumor, the project is “well developed” at 4A Games, to the point where, in its current state, it is even “fully playable” from start to finish. Like the previous installments, the new Metro title will be raised for a player based on a story that “will follow the classic Metro formula of stealth, crafting, looting resources and more“, beginning after a dream sequence, from which players will awaken in their base of operations.
How has war influenced the game?
Remembering that 4A Games had its studios in kyiv, it is inevitable to think that the invasion of Ukraine initiated by Russia has not influenced the workers of the saga whose lives have been seriously harmed. “We never hide the fact that the Metro series has always carried a strong political and anti-war message. Yes, we’ve always wanted to entertain and immerse you in our post-apocalyptic world, but there’s also a bigger story to be told and the war in Ukraine has made us rethink what kind of story the next Metro should be about“, they anticipated from the study.
Now, it seems that we will only have to wait a few more months to find out the direction that the next shooter in the saga takes. Besides, there is also a second project in development based on a multiplayer experience set in the Metro universealthough it will have a different team than the individual game.
