We have not been wrong. It wasn't a slip on the number pad on the keyboard. Sony has released a new update for the legendary Playstation 3. We are talking about a gadget that was launched in 2006 and that stopped being manufactured in 2017. If we round up, it is 18 and 7 years respectively.
The console fell into oblivion, stored in closets or placed on shelves, after the arrival of PS4 and later PS5. Or so we believed. It was in 2023 when the media exputer shared a report that revealed the 2 million active users still. Little compared to the 70.3 and 37.1 million of their successors at that time.
Knowing all this, it is not so strange that Sony recently released a new update for PS3. This is a new version of the firmware. Simply have it connected to the internet to download and install the update. It shouldn't be a mystery to anyone at this point.
The 4.91 patch notes are very brief, so much so that they barely cover two lines: ''A PS3 system software update has been released.'' It covers the performancethe stability and security of the system. It arrives around the same time as last year's update. In any case, this is good news for those who still play on the console, either daily or because they decide to take it out of retirement for a few hours/days.
