We have known for a long time that in Monolith Productions sometime around 2012 a Batman game was made. A fan with the nickname SpideyRanger has now boasted new details and gameplay footage.
Batman was in development under the name Project Apollo and set in the universe of the film trilogy directed by Christopher Nolan. The developers wanted to follow up on the Dark Knight film series. The emphasis was supposed to be on stealth, combat inspired by Rocksteady Studios' Batman: Arkham Asylum, and the beginning of the technology that would later become the Nemesis system in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. Enemies were supposed to remember successes and failures.
Gotham City was meant to be an open world, and exploration was handled by a grappling hook and an armored and well-armed version of the Batmobile Tumbler from the aforementioned movie trilogy. The creators took care of everything, but they ran into a problem with the director. Nolan did not approve of some visual designs, the studio was forced to redo certain things.
It eventually landed at Warner Bros. The company realized that there was no point in having two similar series. Batman: Arkham City was released in 2011, followed by Batman: Arkham Origins from WB Games Montréal in 2023, and Batman: Arkham Knight was hard at work at Rocksteady. And so Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (2014) and then Middle-earth: Shadow of War (2017) were created in Monolith Productions. Now we can look forward to action adventure game with Wonder Woman in the main role. Here, too, the Nemesis system speaks to everything.
