Last week the premiere of Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire took place, the fourth installment of this universe starring the two kaijus. The reception of the film has been really positive from the public, to the point that the franchise has exceeded 2 billion profits. Again, in this film we will once again see the giant lizard fighting side by side with the gorilla to try to save our world from the threats of the other dimension. However, there is one thing that has shocked fans: Godzilla's new design.
For this new film, the kaijuu has received a redesign, turning completely pink when it powers up. Interestingly, a fan asked (via IGN) the lead character designer of the film, Jared Krichevsky, on whether Godzilla's new design was inspired by Goku Rose, the evil enemy who appeared in Dragon Ball Super several years ago. The response was completely unexpected.
According to Krichevsky, he did not know of the existence of Goku Rose until several years after deciding to carry out this Godzilla design. However, he confirmed that, indeed, the giant lizard's new appearance was based on a transformation of Goku. Specifically, took into account the transformation of Kaio-Ken as a basis for this new form.
I didn't see Goku Rosé until years later. But I based his transformation on Kaio-Ken. The enormous amount of energy required to transform him would force him to burn all the extra fat on him. This will change as he regains full control »
Although it is difficult not to know it, the Kaio-Ken is one of the first transformations that Goku achieves, which allows him to multiply his power and speed. As we will remember, when the hero uses this ability, his body is wrapped in a red aura that has a limited timethe same thing that happens with Godzilla in the film, although we do not want to offer more details so as not to enter the realm of spoilers.
Premieres of the week on Netflix: April 1 to 7, 2024 on Netflix

Of course, Krichevsky continued talking to fans, claiming that Godzilla was “in the middle of transforming” while in his pink form, possibly hinting at an entirely new transformation in a future film. For now, it is too early to know, but it is curious that they took Goku into account for the design of the lizard, a gesture that gains more power after the sad death of Akira Toriyama.
