In a newly published press release, Sony representatives revealed the current sales of the PlayStation 5 console. Specifically, we learned that since its launch in November 2020, the console has found its way to to more than fifty million players. For completeness, we add that the data comes from December 9. In a short statement, the head of the Sony Interactive Entertainment division, Jim Ryan, thanked the entire PlayStation community and partners from the development teams.
He further mentioned that the current pre-Christmas season is not unlike the previous three years affected by the lack of consoles themselves. Despite a slower start to sales, which was significantly affected by the limited number of consoles in previous years, the current numbers are close to the level achieved by the PlayStation 4 during the same period.
In addition, everything indicates that the PS5 of its predecessor will soon overcome. In addition to enough consoles themselves and from the point of view of games, the busy year 2023 could also contribute to this by the recently released more compact variants of the console in disc and digital versions.
