We bring you new news from Grand Theft Auto and this time it is not about new rumors or leaks about GTA VI, but about the goose that lays the golden eggs of Rockstar Games, which is none other than GTA Online, the multiplayer aspect of the franchise that rose to stardom with GTA V.
The reason is that Rockstar Games have banned NFTs within GTA Online. In its latest update of its rules for roleplay servers (such as the famous Marbella Vice in Spain) the company has prohibited the use and creation of NFTs and any other type of good that is sold for real money.
Rockstar bans the use of NFTs in GTA Online
This change in the guidelines of GTA Online has been accompanied of the following statement from Rockstar:
“Rockstar Games has always believed in reasonable fan creativity and wants creators to show their passion for our games. Third-party roleplay servers are an extension of the rich variety of community-created experiences within Grand Theft Auto that we hope will continue to thrive in a safe and friendly manner for many years to come. As such, Take-Two’s legal compliance policy will align with our current single player mods policy on PC, with priority given to enforcement actions focused on: (i) misuse of Rockstar Games trademarks or the intellectual property (IP) of the game; (ii) importing or misusing other IP in the Project, including other Rockstar IP, marks, characters, trademarks, or real world music; (iii) commercial exploitation, including the sale of lootboxes for real money or its in-game equivalent, the sale of virtual currency, the generation of revenue through corporate sponsorships or in-game integrations, or the use of cryptocurrencies or active cryptocurrencies (for example, “NFTs”); (iv) make new games, stories, missions or maps; or (v) interfere with our official online or multiplayer services, including GTA Online and Red Dead Online.”
