“I swear it never crossed my mind,” said the creative director of Star Wars Outlaws when he found out that his droid caused passions. Read more, in these lines!
Chaos and heat in the galaxy far, far away! The creative director of Star Wars Outlaws was surprised to see that a lot of fans had “fond” feelings for the game’s android companion. “It never crossed my mind,” counted Julian Gerighty upon learning of the reactions after the premiere of the trailer.
After the presentation of Ubisoft Forward, the director appeared in interviews where he told how he saw the reception of his game, and learned about the reactions of his fans. Specifically, several media outlets asked about the development team’s views on the loving reaction of the Internet towards ND-5, the droid that will be your companion in the adventure.
Oddly enough and inexplicable, the trench coat-clad droid commander who works side by side with the player managed to make some feel… “things”. This was a complete shock to the creative team.
When asked about that answer, Gerighty said that the idea of ND-5 was attractive “never crossed my mind“. Despite that, however, the reaction from him was very positive; “I loved. This is the beauty of working on a game with such a passionate fanbase. […] things like that come up and you ask yourself ‘how?… HOW?’“.
“We know he has charisma, right? But in the game he is a very complex character. When the artist was working on him, I assure you he wasn’t thinking ‘how do I make this character attractive?’ That never crossed his mind“.
Cute droid or not, Star Wars Outlaws seems like a unique proposition for fans. The game will arrive in 2024 on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
