We already learned last week that the Insomniac Games studio was hit by a hacker attack. It looked like the leak was “only” about developer data. But today, the attackers dealt a huge blow to the creators. After all, they released a huge amount of information regarding the world future studio plans for several years ahead including details on the already announced Wolverine. We’re not saying that we don’t like to speculate about leaked materials from unverified sources from time to time, but since this leak also contains personal data of studio members, we won’t dissect it in detail.
If you don’t want to reveal anything prematurely and would rather wait for the official announcement, stop reading right away and click on another of our articles.
The bulk of the information about the upcoming games is about Wolverine anyway. Be wary when roaming the internet, as demos with gameplay snippets are starting to swarm. From them you can see, for example, that Wolverine will put on his traditional blue-and-yellow suit, will be able to climb buildings and will also sit on the seat of a motorcycle. It is also part of the leak full cast. Liam McIntyre plays the main character in the game Wolverine.
The barrage of demos from the work-in-progress version just won’t stop, for the reason that according to Lance McDonald a playable build of the game should also be part of the published files. It is said to require a developer version of the PlayStation 5 console to run, but we wouldn’t be surprised if this Bloodborne modding expert managed to get around that.
The studio certainly wouldn’t just reveal its plans to us either until 2030. Even before Wolverine arrives in 2026, we’re getting a standalone Venom-starring game a year early. A third installment of Spider-Man is also planned, a new Ratchet & Clank for 2029, and the X-Men game should follow a year later.
Today must be an overwhelming day for developers. The group of attackers clearly knew who they were after, and their goal was the prospect of profit, demanding $2 million for the return of the data. “We knew who we were attacking. We knew game developers would be easy targets. We managed to get hold of the domain administrator within 20-25 minutes of hacking the network.” It’s a huge shame that this is how we learned about the future of Insomniac Games, a studio that has released one gem after another in recent years and is generally one of the most popular creators of AAA games.
