It’s been a couple of weeks since we got to see the Starfield Direct with 45 minutes of raw information on Bethesda’s first new IP in over two decades. During those three quarters of an hour We check the magnitude and scale of what the North American company has in its hands at all levels. Today the game director delves into one of them.
And it is that now Todd Howard has boasted about the character creation options in Starfield with the slogan that what people are looking for is role-playing, something that their action RPG has precisely wanted to focus on. She has done it in a chat with the YouTube channel Kinda Funny Gameswhere he explained why they have focused on this section and what it will bring to the players.
Todd Howard shows off the character creation options in Starfield
These have been the words of Howard, director of Starfield, about the creator of characters and how will it affect our game in the game.
“We’ve made several games over the decades that had various character systems and I think we’ve learned a lot in terms of ‘what does it feel like when you start a game? What are those first decisions before you understand what the real rules of the game are?’ It is always difficult to hit. And also ‘how deep is it if you play 20, 50, 100 or 500 hours?’. I think we’ve hit a really good point with Starfield in giving that flavor right at the start, where you pick some starting abilities along with your background. People want to roleplay, they don’t want to look like a list of numbers.
Later in the same talk, Todd Howard put as example one that we could already see above at Starfield Direct, the chef’s.
“I’m a chef, great. What is it? What can a chef do? How does that factor influence dialogue or other choices in the game? The traits -which are a bit like a return to the original Fallout-. They are optional. They have positive and negative aspects. So this new system allows you, if you’re going to start the game from scratch, to play it in a completely different way.”
