The star wars franchise It is one of the most iconic in movies, series and video games. LucasFilm and Disney are in charge of taking care of her and pampering her as much as they can… although it doesn’t always work out for them. So much so that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order director Stig Asmussen (formerly on the God of War saga) almost walked away from the project due to differences between Respawn and Lucasfilm. The problem? The Jedi.
Stig Asmussen has revealed in an interview with The Guardian that Lucasfilm is terribly projective with the star wars jedi and everything that implies the canon. Who would have thought it, seeing the mischief they have suffered throughout the saga! During the development of the game, the company proposed to Respawn not to call the characters Jedis, but “force users“.
For Lucasfilm, the Jedi are like the holy grail. I mean, it’s something they’re probably the most protective of, except maybe Baby Yoda. So we had to earn that. We had to go through a whole process of why do you want me to be a Jedi, what do you want to do with the Jedi? They were really uncomfortable with Jedi, and they said, “Let’s reset this. Let’s call this character a Force user.”
As Asmussen points out, Lucasfilm wanted Cal Kestis to be a bounty hunter or a smuggler, and this caused him to threaten to walk away from the project. He told them “I think you have the wrong person for the job“. And he added:
That is not my experience. My background comes from God of War… I’ve never worked on a shooter, and you need a different team to do it. You could also ask me to make a racing game. And eventually over time, we built that trust to the point where we ended up calling him a Jedi.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order It is already available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S and PC. On the other hand, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will arrive on April 28 for PS4, Xbox Series X / S and PC.
