The history and world of Red Dead Redemption II (and Red Dead Online) have left us hundreds of curiosities that are still discovered today by its faithful community. The first to be discovered were all those related to its campaign mode. And precisely I want to tell you one of them that went more unnoticed because it contains real historical elements.
The Dutch van der Linde band is the lead group Red Dead Redemption II. It is led by Dutch and its number of members varies throughout history. Notable members include: Arthur Morgan, John Marston, Bill Williamson, Javier Escuella, Hoesea Matthews, Sadie Adler and more.
Outlaws always. A gang of criminals, mavericks, and freethinkers who have chosen to reject a corrupt system of power and live by their own rules. As the price placed on their heads increases, so does their fight to remain free. – Wiki Fandom Description.
The history of the Dutch gang is long and contains spoilers for Red Dead Redemption I and II, but the information I have given you is enough to know the curious detail behind it: Rockstar Games was inspired by the Butch Cassidy’s Wild Bunch (Butch Cassidy’s Wild Bunch), a group of real criminals that operated for a few years in Wyoming. His fame grew with the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969). Rockstar didn’t specifically announce it, but the movie recommendation was proof enough.
enough to have played Red Dead Redemption II and read the official wikipedia of the band to begin to establish similarities: the band tried not to kill people, so much so that Cassidy always bragged that he never killed a single person in his entire career… although we know that was a lie as Saint Denis. This mentality is reflected in Dutch’s gang, which even helps the most disadvantaged… when they don’t fleece them with loans.
They are attributed the crimes horse and cattle theft, stagecoach and highway robbery, shop and bank robbery. In addition, we know that several members killed both innocent people and law enforcement. We commit all these crimes in Red Dead Redemption II. And sometimes on more than one occasion.
They allied with a couple of outlaws, they robbed the train Union Pacific in Tipton, Wyoming, and stole the First National Bank of Winnemucca, Nev. During the robbery they seized $32,640, which was a millionaire for the time. Just like in the video game, these two hits were what made the band famous.
In order to avoid spoilers, I won’t give specific details about whether the end of Dutch’s gang is more or less similar to Cassidy’s. Suffice it to say that in both cases they were chased by the Pinkertons and the rest of the forces of the law, and that evidently there are several members of both gangs who share the same ending. If you have played the story, you can easily establish the similarities.
